Nick Saban, Steve Sarkisian check on QB commit, Drake Maye, at basketball game

Drake Maye

Alabama’s 2021 4-Star quarterback commit, Drake Maye, can not only make impressive throws on the football field as the 6-4 210 pounder is also an impressive basketball star for Myers Park High School and Nick Saban was there to see it for himself on Tuesday night.

Saban was accompanied by Alabama’s offensive coordinator, Steve Sarkisian.

Maye verbally committed to Alabama in July of 2019. The Tide hosted him several times during the season as his commitment has remained firm. Maye told Touchdown Alabama he asked himself several questions before committing to Alabama.

“The main factors that played a major part in my decision were are they a football school? Does my style fit into their offense? Do I have a good relationship with the quarterback coach and offensive coordinator? Does the head coach believe in me?” Maye said.

The North Carolina product had quite the junior season as he accounted for 50 Passing touchdowns and was 210 -of-290 passing.

Myers Park was not Saban’s only stop in North Carolina Tuesday as he also spent some time at Weddington High School, the home of 2021 5-Star running back and Alabama target, Will Shipley.

Maye is Alabama’s only quarterback commit in the 2021 recruiting class and could very well be their only quarterback pledge in the 2021 recruiting cycle if they can keep his commitment.
