Alabama’s search for a new strength and conditioning coach seems to have concluded for Nick Saban has found his man in the form of David Ballou.
Touchdown Alabama’s Stephen M. Smith reported the news Saturday night with Ballou now accepting the offer to join Saban’s staff on Sunday. Alabama has not yet confirmed the hiring but is expected to make the announcement at some point this week.
For the last two season’s Ballou served as Indiana’s strength coach and prior to that had spent the 2017 season at Notre Dame in the role of co-director of football strength and conditioning.
To be the one to replace Scott Cochran after his 13 stellar years with Alabama comes off as a bit daunting, which is why Saban is not stopping at just one hire. Smith also reported that Saban has hired Dr. Matt Rhea who was an athletic performance coach at Indiana with Ballou.
Rhea specializes in injury prevention which was an obvious issue for the Crimson Tide all of last season losing many key players to season ending injuries.
