Barnes is a product of Robert E. Lee High School. The Montgomery product garners a 3-Star rating from most recruiting sites and holds five SEC offers. Barnes said he has been wanting an Alabama offer for a long time
“I was excited when they told me,” Barnes said. “I have been waiting to hear that since I was little.”
More than 10 Division 1 schools have offered Barnes, including Georgia, Florida and Auburn.
Alabama has grabbed at least one in-state defensive lineman in the 2019 and 2020 recruiting classes. They will look to add another one during the 2021 cycle as Barnes joins their recruiting board alongside 4-Star defensive tackle, Tim Keenan. Barnes said he feels Alabama is all about putting in work.
“Hard work, that is what they are about,” Barnes said.
Lee-Montgomery used Barnes as an interior defensive lineman for most of his junior campaign. He showed he knows how to use his arms to push off blocks and get to the backfield. Barnes currently stands at 6-4 and weighs 300 pounds.
Barnes is still enjoying his recruitment process as he does not have a top schools’ list at the moment. If he were to release one, Alabama is expected to be included.
“I do not have a ranking, but they are definitely high,” Barnes said.
The last time Alabama signed a Lee-Montgomery product was in the 2017 recruiting cycle when they landed 5-Star wide receiver, Henry Ruggs, who is expected to be a first-round draft pick in the 2020 NFL Draft in April.
