A lot can and will go down when the 2020 NFL Draft commences. Whether it’s big players falling or teams making moves, there will be plenty of action this Thursday.
So leading up to the draft, speculations are reaching a crescendo, and NBC Sports’ Peter King has heard one rumor that would be surprising to most.
King has heard speculations that the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs want to trade up and grab Alabama wide receiver Henry Ruggs to add to their arsenal.
“Craziest rumor of the first round: Chiefs want to trade up for Henry Ruggs if he falls into the twenties. Insane.” said King.
My words:
"Craziest rumor of the first round: Chiefs want to trade up for Henry Ruggs if he falls into the twenties. Insane."
Is that reporting the Chiefs are interested in moving up?
Don't think so. https://t.co/5WsparFd77— Peter King (@peter_king) April 20, 2020
Ruggs is among the best receiver prospects in the entire draft and in most mock drafts he is the third one off the board following teammate Jerry Jeudy and Oklahoma’s Ceedee Lamb.
But insane occurrences have happened before that have turned out to benefit teams who grab these players that fall.
Ruggs is the ideal receiver for Andy Reid’s system as his skill set matches that of already existing players Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins and Mecole Hardman. There have also been rumbling of Watkins wanting to step away from the game of football and drafting Ruggs would fill that void and possibly be an immediate upgrade if he were to retire.
With speed like this amongst the offense, Patrick Mahomes will have an abundance of targets to throw to as they try and get back to another Super bowl.
