Alabama offers 6-6 320 pound OL, Kanaya Charlton

Alabama extended an offer to 2022 offensive lineman, Kanaya Charlton, Wednesday, becoming the 17th Division 1 program to do so.

Charlton hit the camp circuit hard last Summer and his recruitment took off from there. Auburn was the first school to offer when they extended an offer to him in May of 2019. The Tide’s offer caught Charlton’s by surprise while he was hitting the books.

“I was actually doing some school work and my o-line coach called me and said coach Sal (Sunseri) wanted to talk to me a little about Alabama,” Charlton said. “I got on the phone with him and we went from there.”

The SEC has its hands all over Charlton’s recruitment with him holding offers from Georgia, Florida, Auburn, Texas A&M and more. Other major power 5 powers like Oklahoma have also extended offers to Charlton. With offers from several prestigious programs in hand, the Georgia product feels Alabama’s offer is different.

“The was just excited when I was told they offered me,” Charlton said. “I have other big offers that I know are big, but just to know Alabama has an interest in me as a player it took my happiness to another level because that is Alabama.”

It is hard to find another 300 pounder, who moves as good as Charlton. Brunswick High School used him at the tackle and guard position during his sophomore season and he proved to be quite the asset with his mobility and ability to pull and be a lead blocker. Sunseri told Charlton liked his physicality.

“Coach Sal told me he liked the way that I use my physicality and never stop using my feet when blocking and that Alabama can use me because they run the ball a lot,” Charlton added. “I want to improve my hand placement and my hip flexibility so I can stay low for an extended period of time.”

The offensive line position is a priority for Alabama in the 2021 class and is predicted to play a significant role in the Tide’s 2022 class. There are several reasons to believe Charlton could be among their top targets.
