Alston is a product of Woodward Academy in Atlanta, Georgia. More than 30 Divison 1 programs have offered the rising junior. Alabama’s wide receiver coach, Holmon Wiggins, informed Alston of his offer from the Crimson Tide.
The Georgia product said he felt blessed when he found out he had an offer from Alabama.
“It was a blessing,” Alston said. “I was really surprised because I did not think I will get the Alabama offer right now. I thought a school like this would come after my junior year. I was just really surprised when he called and told me. They are also known for their running backs, so it is just a great offer.”
Alabama was not a favorite of Alston growing up, but he has always respected them for their continued success. Growing up, he cheered for a team on the opposite side of the SEC.
“They have been very good over the last decade,” Alston said. “I am a Georgia fan, so I have always gone against Alabama, but at the end of the day, Alabama is a great football school. They always have a good football team. They have coach Nick Saban and he is a great coach. Coach Wiggins even, he coaches these great wide receivers like Devonta Smith and also Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs, who went in the first round of the NFL Draft this year. I think highly of Alabama and it is a school I will be considering in my recruitment in the future.”
Multiple running backs have had success at the University of Alabama during the Nick Saban era, including Mark Ingram and Derrick Henry, who both won the Heisman Trophy.
At 5-11 and 205 pounds, Alston rushed for 889 yards and 10 touchdowns as a sophomore, according to MaxPreps. His speed was on full display last season and is expected to play a large role for him as a junior.
“I am working on getting faster and stronger,” Alston said. “I was fast last year, but I want to keep building on that speed. That is what I am doing, trying to stay in shape, making sure my junior season is one of the best seasons I have ever had.”
