Alabama adds Mississippi State, TCU walk-on QB to its roster for 2020 season

Alabama’s quarterback room under Steve Sarkisian has gained a new member.

While it has three scholarship players – Mac Jones, Bryce Young and Paul Tyson – the Crimson Tide landed its fourth walk-on signal caller on Thursday. Logan Burnett announced via Twitter that he is joining the program.

A native of Pelham, Ala., Burnett led Bessemer Academy High School to a perfect season in 2015 – including its sixth state championship as a senior. During the year, Burnett completed 75 percent of his passes for 2,752 yards with 25 touchdowns.

He was the Wendy’s High School Heisman winner and he took his talents to Mississippi State University in 2016 as a walk-on.

After redshirting his freshman year, Burnett saw action in six games from 2017-19 and ended up transferring to Texas Christian University in January.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pounder hit the transfer portal again in April of 2020, as he decided to leave the Horned Frogs. Upon watching film on him, Burnett’s passing mechanics resemble those of David Cornwell – who came to Alabama from Norman (Okla.) North High School in 2014.

He brings a tight spiral and possesses good touch on the football.

Burnett joins Braxton Barker, Jayden George and Stone Hollenbach as guys that will better the starting talent and find different ways to contribute.

This will be Burnett’s senior season.
