Alabama offer inspires 2022 DB, Sherrod Covil Jr., to do more

2022 defensive back, Sherrod Covil Jr., reported an Alabama offer Thursday.

Covil is a product of Oscar Smith Hgh School in Chesapeake, Virginia. Alabama is the 16th Division 1 football program to offer Colvin. Unlike most Alabama offers, which usually comes from an assistant coach, Nick Saban informed Colvin of his offer.

“My head coach told me to call their recruiting coordinator and we got coach Saban on three-way,” Covil said. “I was blown away to actually hear the same voice on the other end, that I have heard a thousand times in interviews or on film.”

The Crimson Tide is the second SEC school to offer Covil with Tennessee extending an offer to him in April. Virginia Tech was the first school to offer the rising junior. With an Alabama offer now in hand, Covil is inspired to work harder and do more.

“Alabama is one of the top three programs in the nation,” Covil said. “For them to see my talent on the field only makes me want to work harder. I can not be satisfied with an offer. The goal is not to get there. It is to dominate these last two years in high school then do the same at the next level. Every kid has the same dream and talks the talk.”

Saban also shared some off the field wisdom with Covil during their conversation.

“Coach Saban said to make an impact in my community and that is what I plan to do, not just on the field, but off,” Covil said.

As a sophomore, Covil was a versatile safety as he roamed around in pursuit of the football. He showed off his ability to play inside the box and rush off the edge at well.

Alabama has now offered a good number of defensive backs in the 2022 recruiting class. Covil adds his name to that impressive list.
