A shakeup has occurred in college football.
Due to the growing cases of the global coronavirus pandemic, leaders within the sport are faced with two options: cancel fall sports or try to have a shortened season. According to Nicole Auerbach of The Athletic and the tandem of Heather Dinich and March Schlabach at ESPN, multiple power five conferences are moving into the conference-only schedule model this fall.

On the heels of the Ivy League announcing on Wednesday that it’s cancelling all fall sports, institutions in the power five are still trying to hold out hope. After the likes of Auerbach and ESPN’s duo broke the news on the Big Ten going to a conference-only schedule, Brett McMurphy of Stadium reported on the Atlantic Coast Conference following suit.
ACC football also expected to play conference-only games, sources told @Stadium. Last month, ACC commish John Swofford told @Stadium if Power 5 schools played conference-only schedules that ACC would assist Notre Dame with as many games as it needed

In going back to Auerbach’s report, the Pac-12 is in the conversation too.
With the Southeastern Conference and Big 12 not making a move yet, the question is will something be said from both areas?
As much as we would desire a full football season, a shortened year is better than nothing at all.
