Alabama redshirt junior quarterback Mac Jones has been named to the 2020 Davey O’Brien Trophy Award Watch List, per a press release on Tuesday.
Jones is one of 30 candidates competing for the nations top quarterback honor, and is looking to be the first Alabama signal caller to bring home the award.
The Florida native proved to be in the conversation as one of the top quarterbacks in the country last season while filling in for an injured Tua Tagovailoa.
In his four starts in 2019, Jones totaled 1,503 passing yards with 14 touchdowns, three interceptions and also completed nearly 69% of his passes.
“We have a lot of confidence in him and we have some good players around him, so hopefully he’ll be able to do his job well enough to continue to allow some of those players to be successful as well,” said head coach Nick Saban about Jones back in November.
The Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award is presented annually to the nation’s best college quarterback and is the oldest national quarterback award. The Davey O’Brien Award honors candidates who exemplify Davey O’Brien’s enduring character while exhibiting teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership in both academics and athletics. The 2020 winner will be announced live at ESPN’s Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Thursday, Dec. 10.
