Former Tide CB Scooby Carter headed to JUCO program with hopes of returning to Alabama

Within the 2018 and 2019 recruiting classes for Alabama football are three enigmas.

The trio of Eyabi Anoma, Antonio Alfano and Jeffery “Scooby” Carter were all talented prospects, but Crimson Tide fans cannot seem to pinpoint what went wrong in the case of all three.

After things did not work out at the University of Houston, Anoma is now at UT-Martin.

Alfano was a five-star recruit in the 2019 class with a diamond grade of two — meaning he was projected to be an “all-conference player and a potential top-25 NFL Draft pick.”

In the aftermath of him leaving Alabama, the New Jersey native did not stay long at Colorado either. It was reported that he is no longer with the program.

When it comes to Carter, he was a talent four-star cornerback from Mansfield, Texas.

Alabama fans wanted to see big things from him; however, he only played in three games.

He was suspended from the Tide’s matchup against Mississippi State — due to missing class — and has been in the NCAA transfer portal twice. Carter initially entered the portal on Nov. 18 of last year, but then he pulled his name out on Jan. 16.

The 6-foot, 186-pounder put his name back into the portal on Feb. 28. He was arrested on March 11 in Tuscaloosa (Ala.) for third-degree domestic violence, but the case would later be dropped.

In wanting a different opportunity, Carter has decided to transfer to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College — according to a report from Chris Hummer of 247Sports.

Despite the move, he is holding out hope to return to the Tide either in 2021 or 2022 for his final season.

Should the program allow his return, Carter would be back as a redshirt sophomore or redshirt junior.
