Tuscaloosa, Ala — The 2020 college football season has officially began for the Alabama Crimson Tide, albeit in unorthodox fashion. As the Tide wrapped up its first fall practice of the season, Tide head coach, Nick Saban addressed the media via a Zoom press conference to answer questions about the upcoming season. One in particular was focused on Saban’s thoughts on playing for the College Football Playoff Championship.
When asked his thoughts on if the CFP should change this year due to the unpredictability and strangeness of the year thus far, Saban had this to say: “There’s going to be three conferences playing (SEC, ACC and Big 12),” Saban said. “Players look forward to the playoffs, I think the players that play should have an opportunity to have a playoff and have a championship for the teams that are playing.”
With both the Big Ten and Pac-12 deciding to postpone their seasons presumably for the spring due to player safety concerns, Saban wants to ensure the desires of his players are fulfilled as Alabama continues to make player safety a top priority.

“If we’re fortunate enough to be able to manage this, with player safety being the number one concern for all of us, and we can go through a season and we can figure out who the best teams are — I think there would be a lot of interest to see those teams play, and I know the players would certainly look forward to playing,” Saban said. “That’s one of the biggest questions our players ask us, ‘Coach, if we play, would we be able to play in a playoff? We want to have a chance to play in a championship if we have a good season.'”
The uncertainty still exists, but Saban and the Tide will continue its preparation as the Tide will take the practice field again this afternoon.
