Tuscaloosa, Ala. — The Alabama Crimson Tide fall camp officially began August 17th and the media and fans have been able to hear from Tide head coach, Nick Saban, players DeVonta Smith and Dylan Moses, Offensive Coordinator, Steve Sarkisian, and most recently, Defensive Coordinator, Pete Golding.

During the nearly 20 minutes Golding was allotted to speak, shear passion and energy reverberated through the screen as he discussed a myriad of topics from Alabama’s defensive standard, Dylan Moses’ leadership, and Saban.

While discussing the transition of not having a spring and resorting to Zoom meetings with players during a global pandemic, Golding glowingly expressed his appreciation for the man who believed — and continues to believe — in him as his defensive coordinator.

“I’ve just been really impressed, this offseason and this summer, with the leadership of Coach Saban,” Golding said. “I can’t imagine being in any organization, and going through something like this. But working for one of the best leaders in the world — and coming every day and having a plan, and not looking ahead, and not worrying whether we’re playing ball or not — but taking it one day at a time, trying to develop our players we got on our roster, talk to our recruits and continue to recruit. It was really, really impressive to watch being around Coach Saban during this pandemic, and I commend him for that.”

The impact Saban has had on college football pales in comparison to how much he has affected not only his players, but his former and current staff members. Saban has had 29 former assistants become head coaches at the college and NFL level during his tenure. In addition to this, Saban has produced the most first round draft picks of any head coach at 38.

While Golding’s assertion of Saban’s leadership is subjective, he certainly poses a strong argument, and is clearly appreciative of his mentorship.
