Hopefully, Alabama football will have Christian Barmore to open its season versus Missouri.

After the redshirt sophomore hurt his knee — prior to the final scrimmage — he has not worked in each of the last two practices this week.

Before the mishap, Nick Saban referred to the four-star as the Crimson Tide’s best pass rusher and he was very effective in 2019 through 12 games. Barmore, a native of Philadelphia, Pa., totaled 26 tackles, six tackles for loss, two sacks, five quarterback hurries and two pass breakups.

He energized fans at Bryant-Denny Stadium and brings a physicality to this group that is needed for this season. Saban said Barmore is doing well, but his status for Missouri is uncertain.

“We are hopeful by Monday of next week he’ll be able to do some things in practice,” Saban said of Barmore. “You never know for sure how a guy is going to progress, but at least that is the prognosis for right now. It is too early to tell whether he will be ready to play in the first game or not. We’ll just have to see how he progresses.”

With the defense struggling to generate a steady pass rush in each of the last two years, Alabama would love to have Barmore on the field to face the Tigers. We shall see the progress he makes upon his return to work next week.
