After not having a single player from the University of Alabama recognized for honors from week one, the front office of the Southeastern Conference honored a pair of Crimson Tide student-athletes on Monday.
Mac Jones and Malachi Moore were both selected as SEC Players of the Week, following Alabama’s 52-24 rout of Texas A&M at Bryant-Denny Stadium for its home opener. Jones, a redshirt junior, was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week and Moore (true freshman) was chosen for SEC Freshman of the Week.

Jones torched the defensive secondary of the Aggies for 435 passing yards with four touchdowns to one interception.
He completed 20 of 27 passes and paced the Tide to 544 yards offensively. The 6-foot-3, 214-pounder is the lone quarterback in Alabama history with three career scoring passes of 85 yards or more, while his output in yards against Texas A&M stands fourth all-time for a single game.
Through two matchups, he’s completed 38 of 51 passes for 684 yards with six scores to one pick.
Moore started his second game at star (nickel) versus the Aggies. He finished third on the team in tackles (six) and had a team-high two pass breakups with one interception. Moore picked off Haynes King in the fourth quarter for his first career takeaway, earning the “Ball Out” turnover belt from the coaching staff. According to Nick Saban, Moore played well in everything he did.
“Malachi is one of those guys that really knows how to learn,” Saban said. “He uses all the opportunities when he makes a mistake to learn and understand. I think he understands the big picture pretty well. Getting an interception was big for his confidence.”
Prior to arriving on campus in this year’s signing class, Moore was a four-star recruit from Hewitt-Trussville High School.
