Due to the possible effects of Hurricane Delta, the SEC is considering multiple different kickoff options for the upcoming game between Alabama and Ole Miss which is scheduled to begin this Saturday at 5:00 p.m. CT according to Cecil Hurt of the Tuscaloosa News.
The possibilities for the alternate times range from moving the game up a day and play on Friday to shifting the game to an early November date.
Hurricane Delta is currently projected to move through the Oxford area come Saturday according to the National Hurricane Center, and even if the storm is downgraded from a tropical storm there are still chances of heavy rain and gusts of wind ranging from 25-40 miles per hour.
“I don’t think we’ll know until tomorrow for sure,” said Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin during his teleconference on Wednesday. “I think they’re kind of holding off on the most accurate weather we can get and figure it out.”
The storm has already had an effect on one SEC game between LSU and Missouri which was moved from Baton Rouge to Columbia, MO due to the path of Hurricane Delta.
Both Alabama and Ole Miss share an open date on Nov. 7 which remains on the table, but those built-in open dates to the schedule were originally intended as “safety valves” for any sort of COVID-19 breakouts or postponements.
