If one thing is for certain, it’s that Lane Kiffin has dominated the game week media tour leading up to his game against Alabama on Saturday.
He made multiple headlines praising this Alabama team as Nick Saban’s best ever and even poked fun at the head coach calling him “elderly.” But now there is another fantastic addition to the Kiffin tales of the week as he revealed on The Paul Finebaum show he revealed that he has a group chat with other former Alabama assistants in Kirby Smart, Jeremy Pruitt and Will Muschamp.
“We’re in a group text,” Kiffin said. “Me, Kirby (Smart), Jeremy (Pruitt) and Will (Muschamp). I must’ve said something that’s funny, I don’t know. It’s a pretty interesting group chat….a lot stuff. Sometimes it’s ‘hey how are you guys doing with COVID or a practice idea, just sharing with each other. Sometimes it’s personal funny stuff. It’s a pretty interesting group. Three good guys.”
Curious as to what brought the four coaches together in the first place, Finebaum asked how the chat was formed in the first place and Kiffin gave the perfect response.
“Yes we all have the same father,” Kiffin said.
Amazing.
Kiffin served as Alabama’s offensive coordinator from 2014-16, Smart was the team’s defensive coordinator from 2008-15, Pruitt later replaced Smart as the defensive coordinator from 2016-17 and Muschamp was another defensive coordinator under Saban at LSU from 2002-04.
Although all of their coaching tenures with the Crimson Tide didn’t overlap, friendships tend to find their way in this day in age.
