After dropping two passes early in Alabama’s matchup against Mississippi State, DeVonta Smith decided it was time to snatch history for Crimson Tide football.

He and Mac Jones got things together versus the Bulldogs, and Smith totaled four touchdowns.

Prior to the contest, he was second all-time in school history for touchdown receptions (27).

His output at Bryant-Denny Stadium over the weekend moves him to into a tie with Amari Cooper (2012-14) for the most scores by a wide receiver (31). Smith brought in a game-high 11 catches for 203 yards receiving in a 41-0 win for Alabama.

He averaged 18.5 yards per catch and grabbed a long scoring pass of 53 yards. Not only is he tied for most career touchdowns, the former four-star is now fifth all-time for career receptions (174) and third for receiving yards (2,868).

Smith needs five catches to tie Julio Jones (2008-10, 179) for fourth all-time and trails only D.J. Hall (2,923) and Cooper (3,463) for career yards.

The 6-foot-1, 175-pounder has three 100-yard performances this season and eight for his career. He continues to play like a top-five pick for the 2021 NFL Draft.

Alabama has four regular season games left and should it make postseason action, it has an opportunity at seven games.

Smith could not only surpass Cooper for touchdowns, but he could also challenge him in career receptions and yards too.

He is the only player in Southeastern Conference history to record multiple games with four touchdown receptions.

Smith totaled five scores versus Ole Miss in 2019 and had four versus the Bulldogs.

He had a huge night against Mississippi State, and now he gets to rest over the bye week.
