As expected Alabama got things going quickly against LSU in the first half at Tiger Stadium.
Led by Mac Jones who incompleted just four passes in the first half, lead the high powered attack up and down the field quickly against a confused LSU defense.
Jones connected with star wide receiver DeVonta Smith twice for long touchdowns with defenders trailing far behind. Smith continues to dominate the LSU defense after turning in a huge performance in last season’s game where he had over 200 receiving yards in the game.
To end the half Jones connected with Smith in the back of the endzone for an unbelievable one-handed catch giving Smith his third touchdown of the half.
The Crimson Tide offensive line had a strong opening two quarters against the Tigers as it was able to keep the Tigers defense from getting to Jones and opened up a number of big holes for running back Najee Harris.
Harris was able to find his way into the endzone twice in the first half as he closes in on 20 rushing touchdowns for the season.
The Alabama defense saw a degree of struggle in the first half as it got back into some bad habits it had at the start of the year.
LSU’s offensive line was able to get into Alabam’s linebackers and create a few big seams downfield for running back John Emery who rushed for a 54-yard touchdown.
The unit as a whole gave up 227 yards in the opening quarters along with just 14 points. It will surely need to pick things up in the second half, but with the offense performing how it has been, it’ll be difficult for the Tigers to get back in the game.
