Fairfield High School junior, Ja’Kobi Albert received his first D1 offer from Maryland earlier this month and is set to make a name for himself on the recruiting front in the coming months.
Albert is coming off of an impressive junior season, where he played on both sides of the football for the Tigers. Upon Maryland offering him, Albert told the Terrapins’ coaching staff he is willing to play anywhere.
“Honestly, I just play wherever will help my team, wherever would put my team in the best situation, I am all for it,” Albert said.
At 6-1 and 175 pounds, Albert displays potential to play on either side of the football at the next level. His natural breakaway speed makes him a weapon as a wide receiver and aids him as a defensive back as he flows down hill with good anticipation. This past season happen to be the first year Albert played on the defensive side of the football, which he says was an ‘eye-opening’ experience.
The Birmingham area product said he is working on things that will improve his game on both sides of the football.
“I think I need to improve on my hand placement when it comes to 50/50 balls,” Albert added. “I think I will be more effective on offense and defense if I am able to get the techniques down because I did not play defense my ninth and tenth grade year. Me moving was an eye opener in terms of me playing on both sides of the ball. I now feel like I need to get the techniques down.”
