Is Auburn University tired of being in the shadow of Alabama football?

It looks that way with its decision to fire Gus Malzahn after eight seasons as head coach.

Kevin Steele will run the show to conclude this year, but the Tigers shall begin its search for a marquee name.

The program has not won a national championship since 2010 and despite it getting to the big stage in the 2013 season, Florida State ended the campaign hoisting the BCS trophy.

Auburn fans have reached a point where winning a few Iron Bowls is not all it wants anymore.

It craves a national championship, it wants more Southeastern Conference titles, and the Tigers want to be respected as a premiere school in terms of attracting recruits. The best way for it to obtain these aspects is hiring the right head coach.

According to respectable sources, yours truly of Touchdown Alabama Magazine has been informed that Steve Sarkisian of Alabama is on Auburn’s short list of candidates.
