The 2020 Heisman finalists were announced last night with two Alabama players named to the top four in Mac Jones and DeVonta Smith. While there was no surprise for Jones and Smith, many Crimson Tide fans felt another Tide player got the shaft in senior running back, Najee Harris.

Harris, who has been determined since the offseason to see his name mentioned among the top players in the nation for the coveted Heisman award, made the top 5, but failed to crack the fourth and final spot as a finalist.

The 2020 season has been good for Harris. He has more than etched his name in Alabama football history as a premier running back, and with a successful season already in the balance, the crescendo came in the SEC Championship with a five touchdown performance and game MVP.

Since Harris’ freshman season in 2017, he has improved as noted by the following:

2017 – 61 carries, 370 yards, 3 TDs — 6 catches, 45 yards

2018 – 117 carries, 783 yards, 4 TDs — 4 catches, 7 yards

2019 – 209 carries, 1,224 yards, 13 TDs — 27 catches, 304 yards, 7 TDs

2020 – 214 carries, 1,262 yards, 24 TDs — 32 catches, 316 yards, 3 TDs

Harris himself seems to be taking the news in stride and excited and supportive of his teammates. However, Alabama fans don’t seem to be taking the news too well. See how Najee and Alabama fans reacted upon hearing the news Harris missed out on being a Heisman finalist.
