The 2020 Alabama team was able to make many people in the south and across the country feel proud to call themselves Crimson Tide supporters. But what goes without saying is the pride each player’s family takes in seeing their sons achieve their season goals.
One of those proud parents was Gordon Jones, father of Alabama quarterback Mac Jones who made an appearance on “In My Own Words” on Monday.
During his conversation with TDA’s Stephen M. Smith, Jones went into the conversations he had with Mac leading up to the 2020 season and the opportunities that he will be able to take advantage of. This past year was difficult for everyone, but Mac was able to achieve and exceed all of his goals throughout the season.
From winning a national championship to being a Heisman Trophy finalist along with a slew of other individual awards, it was almost hard to keep track of the accolades.
Although he admitted that there weren’t very many intense emotions following the national championship game, Gordon shared that a few days later when he finally had time to sit down and reflect the emotions were able to run through him a bit.
“I tell you, today actually was the first day that I kind of put down a list of everything (Mac) accomplished and I got a little teary-eyed about it,” Jones said. “I mean it just truly was, like wow. Look what the team did. Look what he did. I mean it’s just unbelievable.”
The incredible season from Mac and the rest of the Crimson Tide has garnered much praise and heralded by some as the greatest team in the history of college football.
That alone is something any parent can hang their hat on.
