Oscar Delp is one of the most sought-after tight end prospects in the 2022 recruiting class, and he has a lot of interest in Alabama football.
Delp is closing in on 30 D1 football offers. The Crimson Tide offered him a scholarship in December. The four-star tight end said it felt great when he found out he had an offer from Alabama, considering how they use their tight ends.
“It was awesome,” Delp told Touchdown Alabama. “It is amazing to watch them dominate every weekend and to know I have an opportunity to go to that school. It is a great feeling with the way they use their tight ends and how they have developed a winning culture. It is just a great program.”
Alabama is in the process of adding a new tight end coach to its staff after Jeff Banks left to be the tight end coach at the University of Texas. This has not stopped Alabama from building a relationship with one of the top tight end prospects in the country. Holmon Wiggins, Alabama’s wide receiver coach, informed Delp of his offer from Alabama and have stayed in communication with the 2022 prospect.
“I have been in contact with coach Wiggins with them trying to hire a new tight end coach,” Delp said. “I have talked to him since they offered me. We have just been trying to build a relationship.”
The Tide has used their tight ends as blockers and receivers in the past. OJ Howard, Irv Smith jr. and Jahleel Billingsley have shown what a receiving tight end can accomplish within Alabama’s offense. It is no secret that Nick Saban and company wants to continue adding tight ends who are able to be a weapon in the passing game.
Delp currently stands at 6-foot-5 and weighs 220 pounds. He has a lot of experience at lining out wide and is an above-average route runner. As a junior, he had more than 730 receiving yards and nine touchdowns.
The Georgia product said he can see himself playing in Alabama’s offense.
“It is amazing how they use their tight ends,” Delp said. “They move them all around the field. I can envision myself in that offense with how they use them. I think I can thrive in it.”

Delp has never visited the University of Alabama, but he wants to get on campus when the current recruiting dead period ends. The plan is for him to continue taking his recruitment slow as he is looking to possibly announce a top schools’ list in the Spring.
The Tide wants to continue adding athletic tight ends to their roster and Delp looks to fit that mold. It will be interesting to see how his recruitment plays out with Delp having offers from Ohio State, Clemson, Georgia and others.
