Camar Wheaton signed a National Letter of Intent to play football at the University of Alabama Wednesday.
Wheaton is the Crimson Tide’s lone running back signee. He verbally committed to Alabama on Dec. 23 over Oklahoma. He stayed solid with his pledge to Alabama and signed with the Tide despite rumors that he would flip his commitment to Oklahoma or Texas.
Alabama’s running back room is expected to be loaded this upcoming season with the addition of Wheaton. Nick Saban and company will return Trey Sanders, Brian Robinson, Keilan Robinson, Jase McClellan, Kyle Edwards and Roydell Williams.
Wheaton currently stands at 6-foot and weighs 190 pounds. He possesses elite top-end speed and has a great initial burst. His head track and field coach said he feels Alabama has probably never had a running back with speed like Camar and feels he has shown major growth throughout his high school career.
“He has shown growth as a runner in the open field,” Rawls told Touchdown Alabama in December. “He started as a speedster and would run past people. There is nothing wrong with that when you have his type of speed, but there are times where you have to hit the hole and change directions. He has also improved his ball security. In middle school, he ran with the ball out wide. He has been focused on running with the ball high and tight. His blocking has come a long way as well.”
