Gardendale High School’s sophomore defensive lineman, Kelby Collins has grown into one of the most highly recruited defensive prospects in the country.

Collins currently has 18 D1 football offers and has accepted an invite to the 2023 Under Armour All-America Game. His offer list includes several SEC programs, including Florida and Georgia. The Crimson Tide have yet to offer Collins, but they have been in contact.

The 2023 recruit said the Tide’s coaching staff wants to get him on campus to camp.

“I last talk to them Thursday,” Collins said. “They want me to get back down there and get my re-sized and stuff like that.”

There is a lot of mutual interest between Collins and the Tide. The four-star defensive end said he is a lifelong Alabama fan.

“I like Alabama a lot,” Collins said. “I grew up a huge Alabama fan, and I fell in love with it again when I visited.”

This off-season presents Collins with an opportunity to improve his game in several ways. Touchdown Alabama saw Collins in action Sunday at the DexPreps Elite football camp, and he was really impressive. His strength and impressive size at 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds made him stand out from the crowd.

The sophomore finished last season with 85 tackles, four sacks and 15 tackles for loss. He showed an ability to anticipate the snap and make big plays in the backfield. Collins is attempting to work on his rush moves this off-season.

“I am working on my hands, my pass rush moves and firing off the ball faster,” Collins said.

Alabama has offered several 2023 defensive linemen, but is far from done extending offers. Collins could see an offer come from the Tide in the future.
