On top of the five other Alabama players who are working their way back from injury this spring, running back Trey Sanders is continuing a journey of his own.
The former five-star running back had his season cut short last season following a car accident during the team’s BYE week where he suffered a season-ending hip injury.
During his Friday press conference, head coach Nick Saban was able to provide an update on the status of the redshirt sophomore who has continued to progress.
“Trey Sanders is actually doing some work,” Saban said. “He does some individual work. He’s making really good progress. He can dry-land run now. He’s not 100 percent but he’s getting there, and we’re very happy with the progress. He’s had a tough road to hoe and he’s had a great attitude about it and he’s worked hard. We’re really pleased.”
Sanders was able to appear in just six games during his redshirt freshman season where he rushed for a total of 134 yards on 30 attempts in 2020.
Unfortunately, this was the second major injury Sanders has suffered during his Alabama tenure as he had a season-ending foot injury during his freshman season during fall camp. The Florida native will continue to work towards being available for the beginning of the 2021 fall camp as he hopes to become a major player in Alabama’s offense.
