Griffin played for Alabama from 2003 to 2005. He started several games as a junior and senior for the Crimson Tide. He finished his career in Tuscaloosa with 33 total tackles, two fumbles and one interception.
This new job opportunity puts Griffin back in his home state of Georgia, which is one of the many reasons Griffin was attracted to the job.
“Being from the state of Georgia is always going to be a big part of it because it is my home state but not only that,” Griffin said. “Going back to a top-notch program like Lowndes, which I think is one of the top schools in the country made it a no-brainer for me, also working for a good head coach like Jamie Dubose. Everybody is all-in on football in the community. I think it is a dream destination as far as places to coach in the country if you love football, love coaching the game and the passion that comes with it.”
The former Alabama defensive lineman was previously the head coach at Bessemer City High School. Before becoming a head coach, Griffin was the defensive line coach at East Central Community College after serving as the defensive coordinator for Hewitt-Trussville High School for two years. The Georgia native said he feels players at Lowndes High School will benefit from his college coaching experience.
“What a love about high school football is that the game is pure,” Griffin said. “Guys are playing the game just for the pure love of it. That drives and motivates me. One of the big advantages that I have and I was telling my defensive lineman this the other day is that I was just recruiting two years ago. I know what college coaches are looking for at the position. I am going to teach them and market them the way college coaches love to see. I feel I got the recipe to help these guys get recruited.”
Griffin continues to keep a close eye on the Alabama football program, and he is excited to see the Crimson Tide take the field this Fall. One player he is really eager to see is Malachi Moore, who he coached at Hewitt-Trussville.
“I am super proud of him,” said Griffin. “It is no surprise to me that he is doing as good as he is doing. I think the sky is the limit for him. I am going to call it and say it right now. I think he is going to be in contention to win the Thorpe and Nagurski award. If he can make a few more of the plays like he made last season, I think he can win it.”
