During his Wednesday press conference following practice Alabama head coach Nick Saban gave a few brief injury updates regarding his team.
In his update Saban shared that offensive lineman Kendall Randolph is still dealing with his sprained ankle from the Crimson Tide’s previous scrimmage last Saturday. But another Alabama player has joined the list with Randolph with the same injury.
Saban said that safety DeMarcco Hellams has also suffered a sprained ankle and that both he and Randolph are listed as “day to day”.
“I mentioned Kendall (Randolph) sprained his ankle. DeMarcco Hellams also sprained his ankle, and those guys will be out,” Saban said. “It’ll be day to day, but they’ll probably be out for a little while. But we hope to get them back shortly.”
Hellams has been working as one of Alabama’s starting safeties throughout all of fall camp thus far and even finished the 2020 season starting both College Football Playoff games.
Randolph has been working as the Crimson Tide’s right tackle this fall after playing mostly in a blocking tight end role earlier in his career. Saban raved about the senior’s versatility following last Saturday’s scrimmage.
“Kendall’s done a really good job,” Saban said. “He’s a jack of all trades. He can play every position, probably can’t play center, but guard, tackle. He’s played tight end for us before. He’s worked at all those positions in camp. He can play right tackles, he can play left tackle. So he’s got a lot of maturity about him. He’s a very experienced knowledgeable player.”
