Bryce Young was the subject of conversation when he chose the Crimson Tide in the 2020 class, but his name gained more attention at SEC Football Media Days.
The sophomore quarterback has not started a game for Alabama; however, Nick Saban told reporters that he was nearing six figures in NIL deals. Young is reaching millionaire status in compensation for name, image, and likeness, yet it has not negatively affected him or the team.
Everyone has bought into the mindset of ‘letting the main thing be the main thing.’ If one could interpret this, Alabama players are focused on winning a national championship. Coach Saban has not allowed NIL to become a distraction, and the players are happy for Young. On Thursday, the former five-star got his first chance to speak to reporters.

He told media pundits that ‘Alabama’s culture’ has allowed it to not make NIL a big deal.
“We’ve preached about keeping the main thing the main thing, and it’s something we live by,” Young said. “We are motivated by working hard and making sure we attack the challenges the way we want to. Those distractions, whatever they may be, are always going to be there. The culture that we have is something strong. I am glad to be a part of it, and it really keeps us focused on what we need to be focused on.”
Young stated that external things mean nothing once players entering the football complex.
The mentality shifts to making each other better and finding ways to improve. Alabama has multiple players with NIL deals, but hearing someone nearing $1 million sent shockwaves through people. Young is handling the situation smoothly and is locked in on leading the Tide to a great season.
He has an opportunity to be the fifth first-year starting quarterback to guide Alabama to a national title. Young will make his first start versus Miami on Saturday, Sept. 4 at 2:30 p.m.
