Not only have fans and analysts been critical of Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien’s playcalling on his side of the football, but there’s now a belief that he is making a negative impact on the defense.
Former Alabama defensive lineman Rudy Griffin discussed this point during a recent appearance on “In My Own Words” last week.
“I really feel like the offense ain’t meshing well with the defense,” Griffin said. “I really don’t. And I mean that by not saying that Bill O’Brien is not a good football coach. He’s a dynamic football coach. I just think schematically it’s not as wide open as it’s been in the past, or having offensive creativity as it’s had in the past with the likes of Steve Sarkisian, Lane Kiffin, and Mike Locksley. I don’t think it’s been as creative as it’s been in the past.”
