After punching its ticket to the College Football Playoff with a win over Georgia in the SEC Championship Game, Alabama has been dealing with injuries at the cornerback position which could hinder it against Cincinnati on Dec. 31.
On Wednesday, head coach Nick Saban gave a quick update on the status of Josh Jobe and Jayln Armour-Davis ahead of the team’s first practice of postseason play tomorrow.
Armour-Davis missed the last two games of the season with a hip injury and was replaced by freshman Kool-Aid McKinstry in his absence. Ahead of Thursday’s practice, Saban is currently unsure of what Armour-Davis will be able to do this postseason.
“We’re starting practice tomorrow obviously,” Saban said to the media over Zoom. “I don’t know what Jayln Armour-Davis’ status will be, how much he will be able to do in practice, where he will be physically. I know he wants to play in the game.”
Leading into the SEC title game, Jobe was dealing with a turf toe injury that flared up over the course of the final games of the regular season. Sources had informed Touchdown Alabama Magazine that he underwent surgery on the injury and could possibly miss the entire postseason.
Although Saban did not specifically rule out a return to action, he did note that Jobe would be very doubtful for the upcoming game against the Bearcats.
“Josh Jobe has played with a turf toe all year long,” Saban said. “It got to the point where it was very difficult for him to be able to practice and be able to play. So he is very doubtful for the game.”
Should Jobe not be able to play JUCO transfer Khyree Jackson would likely be called upon to start in his place as he is listed as the next option at corner along with McKinstry.
