The state of Alabama’s Gatorade Player of the Year, Earl Woods III should see his recruitment explode soon after putting up video game-like numbers en route to leading Hueytown High School to the 6A State Championship game.
Woods started at quarterback for the Golden Gophers and finished the season with 3,072 passing yards, 2,123 rushing yards and 68 total touchdowns. The 5-foot-10, 175-pounder gave defenses fits with his ability to use his feet to extend plays, keep his eyes down the field and deliver the deep ball with a nice touch. He also displayed great pocket awareness at times as he stepped up in the pocket to deliver some great throws throughout the season.
The 2023 prospect said he feels he is a major threat at the quarterback position, but he is a better teammate.
“I feel like I am a good leader,” said Woods. “I pick my teammates up when they make a bad play or make a bad decision. I can say that I am a real true dual-threat quarterback. I can beat you with my arm or legs.”
Woods holds offers from Morehouse College, Jacksonville State, North Alabama and Middle Tennessee at the moment. Multiple Power 5 offers look to be right around the corner with several schools showing interest in Woods.
“I have a lot of schools talking to me who I suppose to visit,” Woods told Touchdown Alabama. “Tulane, Alabama, Vanderbilt, Liberty, Colorado, Penn State, Oklahoma and a lot of other schools are as well. The list goes on and on.”
Alabama football hosted Woods for an unofficial visit last week. The Crimson Tide like the junior at a couple of different positions.
“I like the vibe I am getting from them,” Woods said. “They are showing interest at quarterback and at the star position. Their quarterback coach talked to me, and We had a great conversation. He said that he likes that I am a true dual-threat, and I can get it done with my legs and my arm. He said he wants to get me back up there in the spring. I also had great conversations with T Rob (Travaris Robinson) and their safety coach (Charles Kelly).”

Woods is open to the idea of possibly playing another position at the next level but feels his natural position is quarterback.
“I will do whatever to help the team win, but I am a quarterback first,” Woods said.
