Alabama football’s wide receiver coach Holmon Wiggins was on the West Coast Tuesday checking on some of California’s best when he caught up with 2024 defensive back, Peyton Woodyard at his baseball practice.

Woodyard is a product of St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, California. He camped at Alabama in June and earned an offer from Nick Saban. Wiggins made sure Woodyard knew the offer was still on the table during their most recent conversation.
“I felt blessed when coach came out to my baseball practice to watch me and solidify my offer once again,” Woodyard said. “We had a good chat but could not talk very long because I was in practice. They want me to come out in March for a visit.”
After picking up an offer from Saban in June, Woodyard told Touchdown Alabama he was thoroughly impressed with Alabama’s player development on and off the field.
“Aside from their winning tradition, I have always been impressed with their ability to change their approach based on the players in the program,” Woodyard said. “They do not make excuses. They just get in the lab and get better, which is accountability. They are preparing young men to be successful in life. They provide a platform for many to pursue a professional career in football.”

The sophomore did not visit Alabama during the 2021 football season, but he did watch all of their games. He actually has some strong ties to the state and the Alabama football program.
“I watched them all season,” said Woodyard. “My dad is from Alabama, and I have been a fan since birth. I still have a lot of family from there.”
Woodyard finished his sophomore season with 50 tackles, five pass deflections, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He consistently flowed downhill to make some impressive tackles in space on running backs. He also closed on the football with great efficiency in coverage.
