Willis High School’s (TX) sophomore quarterback, DJ Lagway walked away from Alabama’s junior day with an offer in hand.
Lagway has 14 D1 offers after the Crimson Tide offered him Saturday, and he garners a four-star rating from multiple recruiting sites. The Texas product found out about his offer during a meeting with Nick Saban.
“I was just like thank you God because I know without him I would not be here,” Lagway told Touchdown Alabama. “It was just a true testament that my hard work is paying off. Alabama has a rich history of winning, and I like winning programs.”
Saban and Alabama’s coaching staff were able to talk with Lagway throughout his visit. The four-star recruit said he is sold on their staff’s ability to develop talented players.
“Their coaching staff is amazing,” Lagway said. “They know a lot about the game and help develop players to reach their potential. Saban is an awesome guy. We talked a lot today.”
The 2024 prospect wrapped up his visit to Tuscaloosa by watching Alabama basketball take down the Baylor Bears in Coleman Coliseum. The raucous crowd during the game gave him a preview of what Saturdays are like in Bryant-Denny Stadium in the fall.
“That game was unreal,” said Lagway. “It had to be the loudest thing I have been at.”
Lagway is listed at 6-foot-3 and weighs 215 pounds. He was a serious threat with his arm and legs during his sophomore season. He threw accurate passes all over the field and launched deep throws that allowed his receivers to continue progressing up the field. When he saw a running lane, he took full advantage with his physical running style. Alabama’s coaching staff is impressed with his ability to create when running run-pass option plays.
“They said they liked the way I played off of RPOs and how I threw my deep ball,” said Lagway.
