Alabama football boasted two 1,000+ yard receivers in 2021, and one has arrived at the NFL Scouting Combine to speak to reporters.

John Metchie had a career in three seasons. He finished seventh all-time in school history for receptions (155) and receiving yards (2,081). Metchie stands third all-time for receptions in a single season (96) and seventh for yards (1,142) after his efforts in 2021.

He led the team in catches and totaled eight touchdowns as a junior.

Metchie sustained a knee injury in the Southeastern Conference Championship Game versus Georgia.

He missed the College Football Playoff, and Alabama’s offense struggled in the CFP title game without him. During today’s interviews with the media, Metchie highlighted the Patriots and Dolphins as franchises of interest for him. He caught 55 passes for 916 yards and six touchdowns from Mac Jones in 2020, helping the Tide secure an undefeated national championship.

Jones had a strong rookie season in New England, and Metchie said it would be ‘cool’ to reunite with him.

Metchie has met with the Patriots in his draft process.

He also said it would be ‘special’ to be with Jaylen Waddle in Miami. Metchie and Waddle shared the receiver room for two seasons at Alabama. Metchie said it would be ‘unfair’ for opponents to defend him and Waddle. The 6-foot, 195-pounder is an all-around receiver that excels as a blocker. Mike McDaniel would love to have him with Tua Tagovailoa.

Tagovailoa played with Metchie in 2019.

No one expects Metchie to perform any on-field workouts at Lucas Oil Stadium. He will participate in interviews and meet with teams. Alabama has its Pro Day on March 30, and Metchie might do it. Some draft pundits have him as a late first-round selection, and others have him getting taken in the second round. It will be interesting to see where he lands.
