Former Alabama running back Camar Wheaton has found a new team as he announced on social media on Tuesday that he has committed to SMU. Wheaton previously entered the transfer portal back on Feb. 1.
During his true freshman season in 2021, Wheaton battled a meniscus injury that he suffered during practice. The injury hampered him throughout the year as he was unable to participate in an extended capacity which led to him redshirting.
“He was a real speedster,” Nick Saban said during an appearance on Hey Coach last September, “and really a guy that could have probably been helpful to us this year, as well.”
Alabama’s running backs room became crowded during the offseason as it saw the return of Roydell Williams, Jase McClellan and Trey Sanders from last season. Adding to the room’s depth is Georgia Tech transfer Jahmyr Gibbs who has made headlines so far during spring football.
