During an appearance on the “I Am Athlete” podcast, Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle was asked about his former Alabama teammate Henry Ruggs and the fatal car accident he was involved in which resulted in his arrest. Waddle shared that he still stays in touch with all of the wide receivers from his time with the Crimson Tide and that Ruggs was the last person he would think of to be involved in this sort of incident.
“Out of all of us, that’d be the person you least expect something like that to happen to,” Waddle said on Ruggs’ fatal car wreck. “We definitely stay in contact. I know he’s got a legal situation and I don’t want to touch on it too much because I don’t know what is coming, but he knows it is much love. We stay in touch. All of us (from Alabama) stay in touch.”
Ruggs was involved in a car crash back in November of 2021 while in Last Vegas. The crash resulted in the death of a 23-year-old woman whom Ruggs collided with while traveling 156 miles per hour. Reports later proved the former Las Vegas Raiders receiver was driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol level more than two times the legal limit.
Ruggs now faces felony charges of DUI resulting in death, DUI resulting in substantial bodily and two counts of reckless driving. HE was also charged with a misdemeanor of possession of a gun under the influence of alcohol. His preliminary court hearing is scheduled for May 19.
“It can happen to anybody,” Waddle said. “You got your antennas up. It’s eye opening.”
