Alabama football’s backup quarterbacks’ performances during the Crimson Tide’s spring game caught the eye of 2024 five-star quarterback, DJ Lagway.
Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson both showed they are capable of making plays with their arm and feet Saturday. Lagway paid close attention to both signal-callers during his visit to Tuscaloosa for A-Day, and he said he can imagine himself in their shoes.
“I could see myself playing in that offense,” Lagway said. “I saw a lot of things Jalen Milroe did that I feel like I could in that system as well.”
Saturday’s visit to Tuscaloosa was Lagway’s first trip to Tuscaloosa since picking up an offer from the Tide in January. The five-star recruit said he enjoyed getting back to the Capstone, and he feels Alabama is floating near the top of his recruitment.
“It was great seeing all the coaches and getting to speak to them again,” said Lagway. “Right now, Alabama is really high on the board.”
The Texas product told Touchdown Alabama he felt Alabama’s coaching staff could help him reach his full potential when he first picked up an offer from the Tide.
“Their coaching staff is amazing,” Lagway said. “They know a lot about the game and help develop players to reach their potential. Saban is an awesome guy. We talked a lot today. Alabama has a rich history of winning, and I like winning programs.”
Lagway is listed at 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds. As a sophomore, he was able to stretch defenses with his accuracy on deep throws and throws outside. He was also difficult to contain with his elusiveness in the pocket.
The Texas product keeps his eyes down the field when he is maneuvering around the pocket and he is dangerous when he escapes it.
