He spent some time in Florida for SEC Meetings, but Alabama head coach Nick Saban addressed reporters Thursday at the Old Overton Golf Club in Birmingham, Ala.

Saban and his wife, Miss Terry, had the golf tournament for Nick’s Kids.

The foundation has donated nearly $11 million to many deserving organizations and causes in Tuscaloosa since 2007.

Saban wore some electric blue shorts and his iconic Alabama straw hat to go through 18 holes of golf in the heat. He took some time to speak with media pundits about several topics, including the summer transfers the Crimson Tide grabbed from the portal.

Alabama had Jermaine Burton (Georgia, wide receiver), Jahmyr Gibbs (Georgia Tech, running back), and Eli Ricks (LSU, defensive back) came in the spring. Tyler Steen (Vanderbilt, offensive lineman), Tyler Harrell (Louisville, receiver), and Miles Kitselman (Hutchinson Community College, tight end) have joined them. Coach Saban is excited to have Steen, Harrell, and Kitselman, but he has one goal for all three. They have started summer workouts with the team.

“We are hopeful that all these guys will add value to the team,” Saban said.

“Tyler Steen has started a lot of games in this league. Tyler Harrell was a big-play receiver for his team, and we thought we could use somebody to add that. We added a tight end from junior college that brings depth to that position. We are always trying to develop our team with good, young players in the program. If we take guys from the portal, it would be guys that could affect and impact the team immediately. We will see how it goes this summer and how those guys grow, develop, and learn the system.”

Saban wants to see the transfers mesh well with the young talent.

Steen has 33 games of experience as an offensive tackle, Harrell is an explosive wide receiver, and Kitselman is a run-blocking tight end. All three have traits to make the Tide a national champion.

We will see how it plays out.
