The biggest story of the college football offseason between Nick Saban and Jimbo Fisher continued to bleed into SEC Media Days and the comments appear to still be fresh in the mind of the players.
On Tuesday Alabama linebacker Will Anderson was asked about the feud between the two coaches from back in May and Anderson made it known where the Crimson Tide stands and how it will be handled by the team in 2022.
“I watched it. I saw. I don’t really get into social media stuff,” Anderson said. “When we play Texas A&M, everything will be addressed there.”
Alabama quarterback Bryce Young was asked a similar question during his segment at SEC Media Days where he shared how much respect he and the team has for Texas A&M.
“Both coaches are great coaches, great competitors and when you’re competing at the highest level, stuff like that is bound to happen,” Young said. “We have a lot of respect for Texas A&M as a team. Obviously, we know how good they are.
The drama first stemmed from Saban’s comments regarding the impact of NIL on recruiting during an event in Birmingham where the seven-time national champion claimed the Aggies bought their entire recruiting class. Fisher then famously called a press conference the following morning where he went scorched earth on his former head coach calling Saban a “narcissist” and eluding the skeletons in his closet.
The off-field back and forth only added fuel to an already burning fire, especially when considering how things played out between the two in 2021. Fisher became the first former Saban assistant to beat him as Alabama suffered its first loss on the road against Texas A&M 41-38.
Saban himself had another opportunity to comment on the situation which will surely not leave the public eye until the two teams meet again this fall.
“I have no issues or problems with Jimbo,” Saban said to reporters. “He’s done a great job with A&M and did a great job for us (at LSU).”
With Fisher and the Aggies slated to speak at SEC Media Days this Thursday, it certainly won’t be the last time the handling of each coach’s comments will be discussed prior to the team’s Oct. 8 matchup.
