Alabama now has more defensive players than Will Anderson being recognized as candidates for preseason awards.

A trio of names was announced Monday morning for the Crimson Tide. Jordan Battle, a senior safety, is a candidate for the Jim Thorpe Award. The Thorpe Award goes to the nation’s top defensive back in college football. Battle recorded 87 tackles, three interceptions, and four pass breakups in 2021.

The duo of Henry To’oto’o and Jaylen Moody were named for the Dick Butkus Award. The Butkus honor goes to the nation’s top linebacker.

To’oto’o finished last season with a team-high 113 total tackles. He looks to turn in a marquee season as a senior in Tuscaloosa. Moody enters his fifth season with the Tide, but this may be his first opportunity as a starter on defense. He’s been impactful on special teams and makes plays on defense when he’s on the field.

Moody is prepared to leave his mark on the program.
