Alabama football fans and media pundits heard from Jahmyr Gibbs in a presser for the first time since his arrival.

On Friday, the transfer from Georgia Tech spoke about his transition to the Crimson Tide, his goal to win a national championship, and how he feels at home in Tuscaloosa. Gibbs, a native of Dalton, Ga., got to Alabama in the spring after recording 1,800 all-purpose yards and seven touchdowns with the Yellow Jackets in 2021. He excelled as a back, receiver, and kick return specialist. The 5-foot-10, 200-pounder impressed coaches and teammates in spring practice, especially in Alabama’s spring game. Gibbs posted a 75-yard touchdown run at Bryant-Denny Stadium that had fans excited about him for the fall.

Tide players love his speed and explosiveness. Coach Saban has mentioned how Gibbs brings a different element to the offense that makes the Crimson Tide better. He appreciated his time at Georgia Tech, but Gibbs said he ‘feels at home’ at Alabama.

“They welcomed me with open arms,” he said about Alabama’s running back room. “It feels like I have already been here. For the first two months, I felt like I’d been here for two years. Jordan Battle, DeMarcco Hellams, Brian Branch, and I went to the movies together. Jase, Trey, Roydell, and I hang out every day. It has been a great experience with them.”

Gibbs enjoys spending time with his position group.

“Those boys are cool,” he said. “They are funny. I like them a lot. They talked to me about what it’s like being here. They talked to me about games, and Coach G did too. The running back room is cool.”

Gibbs had a relationship with Robert Gillespie before coming to Alabama.

Gillespie recruited Gibbs to North Carolina, but having the explosive player in Tuscaloosa means a lot to him. He expects to have incredible numbers, but Alabama has a team player in Gibbs. He makes the offense better and is getting the defense better in fall camp.
