Alabama added six transfers to its roster in the offseason, and some have made an impact.
Jermaine Burton (wide receiver) and Jahmyr Gibbs (running back) have been consistent offensive weapons. Tyler Harrell (wide receiver) is growing in his role, Eli Ricks (defensive back) continues to learn the defense, and Miles Kitselman (tight end) is an exceptional blocker. Alabama lost an All-American left tackle in Evan Neal to the National Football League. After its offensive line allowed 41 sacks in 2021, Coach Nick Saban needed someone that could anchor the outside and limit pressure.

Tyler Steen, a South Florida native, transferred from Vanderbilt in the summer.
He has 33 games of experience as an offensive tackle, including 21 starts at left tackle. The 6-foot-5, 315-pounder has quickly picked up the system and is impressing teammates. Saban likes the effort Steen has put in, and Kendall Randolph is enjoying the addition of Steen to the room. The sixth-year senior has been on several offensive fronts, but he has identified Steen’s strengths.
“He is a great athlete,” Randolph said about Steen during Tuesday’s interview with reporters. “He has quick feet and overall is a great player and person. We enjoy having him on the team.”
Will Anderson Jr., an outside linebacker, spoke about Steen on August 8. He highlighted two main things about the transfer.
“He is a good tackle,” Anderson said. “He has powerful hands and is great in run blocking. He is good.”
JC Latham, a sophomore, is playing with more confidence at right tackle. Steen’s growth on the opposite side gives Alabama two legitimate tackles to protect Bryce Young. The Tide wants to do more in the run game and open up play-action passes.
Steen’s success in fall camp provides Alabama with a chance to do both.
