Alabama football kicked off fall camp Thursday, Aug. 4.

Fans of the Crimson Tide are excited for this edition of athletes taking the field, as Nick Saban and the program look to reclaim the crown of national champions. With the start of college football quickly approaching, the staff writers for Touchdown Alabama Magazine will provide in-depth previews of the top 30 players on Alabama’s roster.

Entering at No. 11 is transfer wide receiver, Tyler Harrell.

Tyler Harrell

-Classification: Junior

Position: Wide Receiver

-Hometown: Miami, Fla

-Height: 6-0

-Weight: 194 pounds

Strengths: Elite speed, explosive with the football, hands

-Weaknesses: Consistency, dealt with injury at the beginning of fall camp, experience in offense

SUMMARY:

Nick Saban has always valued speed on the offensive side of the ball and Tyler Harrell checks that box. Originally beginning his career with Louisville, Harrell proved to be an explosive receiver for the Cardinals offense when given the opportunity.

During the 2021 season, Harrell averaged nearly 30 yards per reception while recording a total of 523 yards and six touchdowns. That sort of production is just a small sample size of the player Harrell can turn into alongside quarterback Bryce Young.

Harrell arrived in Alabama during fall camp but dealt with some injuries starting off which put him behind the ball a bit. Although he still needs time to completely get the offense down, Harrell’s skillset sets him apart along with his extended game experience when compared to other younger Crimson Tide receivers.

There is no such thing as finding a replacement for what Jameson Williams was able to provide for Alabama last season, but Harrell can fill some of the void simply by being on the field as a deep threat for this offense.
