ULM’s head coach Terry Bowden on a potential upset of Alabama: “Anything is possible.”

The tone of voice in Nick Saban’s and Terry Bowden’s opening thoughts is telling.

Saban wants players clean mistakes, while Bowden credited his players for the win over Nicholls State.

Bowden, 66, feels very comfortable about the place his team will be at this weekend.

He is a native Georgian, but Bowden served as head coach for three schools – Samford, Auburn, and North Alabama – in Alabama. He was not coaching a program during Louisiana-Monroe’s best feat in its history in 2007, but Bowden is in his second year with the Warhawks. Saban’s first season in Tuscaloosa had an embarrassing loss at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

The Crimson Tide hosted Louisiana-Monroe, and several things went wrong.

John Parker Wilson tossed two interceptions, Kinsmon Lancaster produced a good performance at quarterback for the Warhawks, Louisiana-Monroe had two rushing touchdowns, and Quintez Secka was the defensive back that victimized Wilson. Alabama suffered a 14-21 loss, and Gatorade got dumped on ULM’s coach, Charlie Weatherbie. It has been 15 years since the matchup, but Bowden is excited for the great opportunity and incredible challenge to face Saban and the Tide in Tuscaloosa.

“It is a great chance for our guys to go to Tuscaloosa and play Alabama,” Bowden said Tuesday in his presser. “We have to look at last week and see anything is possible. We are not favored to be in this game, but I don’t think Appalachian State was favored against Texas A&M. I don’t think Marshall was favored against Notre Dame in Notre Dame. I doubt Georgia Southern was expected to beat Nebraska in Lincoln, but all three happened.”

Bowden wants the Warhawks to come in confidently and play their best game.

“If our best pulls an upset, we will be fine,” he said.

After a narrow victory over Texas and falling behind Georgia in the Associated Press Poll, Alabama is trying to get right.

We shall see what happens against the Warhawks.
