On a night that had high-flying offense from both teams, it came down to the legs of their kickers. And this time around Tennessee came out on top.
Senior Chase McGrath drilled a 40-yard field goal with two seconds remaining to make history for the Volunteers as it defeated the Crimson Tide for the first time since 2006.
The play was set up by quarterback Hendon Hooker who was able to drive the ball downfield with just 15 seconds remaining to give McGrath the chance. On the day Hooker threw for 385 yards and five touchdowns as he had his way with the Alabama secondary.
Offensively, Alabama saw a great deal of success as it was able to put up 49 points with quarterback Bryce Young throwing for 455 yards and two touchdowns and running back Jahmyr Gibbs rushing for three scores.
But a school record of 17 penalties and blown coverages on defense ultimately did the Crimson Tide in.
