He is one of Nick Saban’s former players at Alabama, but he also speaks his mind on thee Crimson Tide.
Mike McCoy, a 2009 BCS National Champion, is vocal about his Alma mater.
As a wide receiver, he was one of the leaders on Alanama’s first Southeastern Conference and national championship team since 1992. He is the founder of Maximum Performance Training (MPT), but he came on In My Own Words Monday with Stephen M. Smith via Touchdown Alabama Magazine. McCoy gave passionate thoughts on the loss to Tennessee and mentioned Saban needs to get back to the old-school coaches. Scott Cochran was one McCoy named in particular. Cochran served on Saban’s staff as the Director of Strength and Condition for several national championships. He was also a master motivator on the sideline, practice field, and weight room. McCoy believes this Alabama team misses Cochran’s energy and it needs to returrn to the program.
“These people got their money up,” McCoy said about other programs have caught up to Alabama in recruiting.
“It is the wild, wild, west now. A lot of these kids are going to the highest bidder. So now that these school have the same money as you, what are you going to do about it? What are you going to do different? Are you going to revert back to your old ways? You better call Cochran because the sidelines look dead over there to me. Did I not look dead to you?”
McCoy wants the old Alabama swagger to return.
