Alabama has been able to rebound from several difficult losses in the past thanks to the adjustments made by Nick Saban. But this season ESPN college football radio host Paul Finebaum feels a bit differently about the job he’s doing.
Finebaum laid into Saban during an appearance on “The Opening Kickoff” on WNSP-FM 101.5 on Thursday regarding the two close calls the Crimson Tide has had this season, along with its most recent loss to Tennessee, ending a 15-year winning streak against the rival.
“Let’s not sugarcoat this,” Finebaum said. “Nick Saban has been outcoached three times this year by Steve Sarkisian (Texas), Jimbo Fisher (Texas A&M) and now Josh Heupel (Tennessee). We’re only at the midpoint of the season. The troubling sign is it getting worse, not better.”
Many Alabama fans have geared their criticisms to the team’s offensive and defensive coordinators, but Finebaum said that ultimately everything falls back on Saban and he isn’t holding up his end of the bargain.
“Do we want to blame Pete Golding? Do we want to blame Bill O’Brien? Callers to the radio show want to, but Nick Saban is the head football coach,” Finebaum said. “If we’re going to lavish praise on Nick Saban and said he is the greatest coach of all time and could do no wrong, let’s quit hiding behind Nick Saban and tell the truth.
“He’s doing a lousy job this year.”
Alabama is looking to get back on track against Mississippi State this Saturday which will kickoff from Bryant-Denny Stadium at 6 p.m. CT.
