Alabama football’s players are working to improve the Crimson Tide’s rushing attack.
Jahmyr Gibbs, Jase McClellan and Roydell Williams combined for 53 yards on the ground in the Crimson Tide’s win over Mississippi State. It was Alabama’s worst rushing performance of the season. Senior offensive lineman, Emil Ekiyor says the Tide used the open week to reflect on themselves.
“We got a chance to just reflect on everything that we could work on from the season and obviously the run game was one of those things, and we kind of just tried to improve the little details in our technique,” Ekiyor said. “The coaches, they looked over this scheme, how they can put us in better situations going forward. I think we just really put our head down and got some good work done last week and made some improvement in those areas.”
Gibbs is Alabama’s leading rusher this season. The Georgia native has 662 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 98 carries. McClellan sits behind him with 312 yards and 54 carries.
Bryce Young feels the Crimson Tide needs to execute more consistently.
“It just boils down to execution as a unit,” Young said. “That is not one position group’s job….It is something that we all have to do better at. You know me making decisions and then everyone involved with just being more consistent. So, I think when it comes down to it, Xs and Os are great. It is just as a unit, executing better and being more consistent with that.”
Alabama’s tight ends are also joining in on Alabama’s effort to improve its run game.
“I can personally be better at blocking,” said Young. “I can expand on that, but just know that definitely need to be better on blocking, finishing, Uh, just a lot of, there’s a lot of little things that we need to put together, but definitely stuff like that.”
The Tide will have an opportunity to put their efforts to the test Saturday against LSU Tigers.
